AdMaths is hosted in collaboration with the AdMaths School in Brackenfell. Learners can follow the full-time program at school or join the distance education program. At the end of Grade 12, the “Independent Examinations Board” exam is written and the learner receives a certificate. It is also currently negotiating to gain international recognition for this qualification.
AdMaths already starts in Grade 9. The content of this curriculum is also an excellent bridging to the Grade 10 school curriculum. A learner who regularly gets 80% for Maths is a good AdMaths candidate. The AdMaths pass rate is 60%.

VAKREGULASIESMATHEMATICS OR MATHEMATICAL LITERACY
- Mathematical Literacy involves a practical application of Mathematics eg. interest rates, exchange rates, graphs and statistics.
- Mathematics involves Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Analytical Geometry.
IMPORTANCE OF MATHEMATICS
Mathematics has been an important component of university admission. Universities generally require Mathematics for the BCom and BSc fields of study with at least a 4-point entry mark (50-59%). Learners must therefore make sure of their field of study in order to achieve the necessary admission point score.
- Mathematics is required for Physical Sciences and IT and as of 2018 for Accounting.
- Mathematics is highly recommended for Engineering Graphics and Design, provided the learner wants to study further in a relevant field of study.
ENGLISH HOME LANGUAGE
- Above-average performance at the second language level, a special passion for English literature.
- (60% in Grade 9 is recommended as a guideline.)
- English as Home Language is recommended for bursary applications.
- English Home Language counts more weight when determining eg. Dux learner and the designation of the National Top Ten in Grade 12.
PASS REQUIREMENTS FOR FURTHER STUDIES
learner must pass seven subjects (four subjects from Group A and three subjects from Group B).
DIPLOMA | NSC and at least 40% (3) in four 20-credit subjects. |
GRADE | NSC and at least 50% (4) in four of the designated 20-credit subjects. |
Designated Subjects: Business Studies; Dramatic Arts; economy; Physical sciences; Geography; Engineering Graphics and Design; Information Technology; Life sciences; Accounting; Languages (one language of learning and teaching as used by higher education institutions); Visual arts; Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy; German and Music
The following subjects are not included: Computer Applications Technology, Design, Hospitality Studies and Tourism – these subjects do count for admission points.
Note: Life Orientation is only a 10-credit box. (So not part of the designated subjects.) Consult specific Life Orientation policies of specific tertiary institutions.
In order to gain admission to a specific faculty and programs, combinations of recognized NSC subjects, as well as specific levels of achievement of prospective students, are required. In this regard, the Admission Point Score (APS) and a summary of the faculty-specific requirements are set, ie the APS per program, as well as the specific subjects required by the program. (The APS is the old M-score.)
The APS score is calculated as follows
80 – 100% | 7 points |
70 – 79% | 6 points |
60 – 69% | 5 points |
50 – 59% | 4 points |
40 – 49% | 3 points |
30 – 39% | 2 points |
30 – 39% | 2 points |
0 – 29% | 1 point |
Important: Achieving minimum requirements does not guarantee that a learner will be admitted to any program or field of study.
