Industrial psychology is the scientific study of the relationship between people and the world of work. In brief, industrial psychology is concerned with the scientific structuring of organisations and work. The aim is to improve the productivity and quality of life of people at work by applying techniques and principles of psychology.

The Department of Industrial Psychology prides itself on being a department suitable for the training of industrial psychologists and human resource practitioners in South Africa. The department is accredited at various professional bodies, including the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), the Society for Industrial and Organisational Psychology of South Africa (SIOPSA) and the South African Board for People Practices (SABPP).

While our competent staff members provide students with quality education, they also do research in their various fields of expertise and are actively involved in practice as consultants for industry. Fields of specialisation include organisational development, human resource management, talent management, personnel psychology, career psychology and construction, wellbeing, leadership and ethical behaviour.

The Department of Industrial Psychology strives to prepare students for the world of work by ensuring that the modules offered meet the demands of the business environment. The modules are ideally suited to students with a heart for people and a head for business.
