The Rhodes Trust International Postgraduate Scholarship 2023 – 2024

ABOUT THE BURSAR

The Rhodes Trust Scholarship is intended for postgraduate students from Southern Africa, including South Africa; Namibia; Botswana; Swaziland; Lesotho and Malawi. Applicants will be selected based on prior academic performance and will study at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. There will be a total of 89 students selected from 32 countries to partake in this scholarship.
 

ABOUT THE BURSARY

The following expenses will be covered by the scholarship: tuition, living allowance, a return flight ticket to Oxford.

4 scholarships are awarded annually for South Africa students, 1 for KwaZulu-Natal students, 1 for students Namibia/ Botswana/ Swaziland/ Lesotho/ Malawi and 1 for past pupils of the following schools:

 
  • Bloemhof Girls’ High School, Rhenish Girls’ High School, Paul Roos Gymnasium, Stellenbosch (and partner schools).
  • Rustenburg High School for Girls, Sans Souci Girls’ High School, South African College School, Newlands (and partner schools).
  • Diocesan School for Girls, St Andrew’s College, Grahamstown (and partner schools).
  • Herschel Girls School, St George’s Grammar School, St Cyprian’s School, Diocesan College, Rondebosch (Bishops) (and partner schools).

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • Citizen (or legal permanent resident) of South Africa/ Namibia/ Botswana/ Swaziland/ Lesotho/ Malawi,
  • Must have completed (or be in the final year of) your degree when applying,
  • Strong academic results for current degree,
  • Between the ages of 19 and 25 years old,
  • Medical students (or MBBCh/ MBChB degree students) may be up to 28 years old.

HOW TO APPLY

The following documents must accompany your application

  • Birth certificate (certified copy),
  • Colour photo (head and shoulder shot) in jpg format,
  • Matric results certificate (certified copy),
  • Degree certificates (certified copy),
  • Academic results record (certified copy),
  • CV with the following information: contact details, previous achievements in school; university; community; sports; culture; leadership etc,
    Details of any previous employment,
  • Contact details of six references (work and mobile or home number, fax number, email address and post address) (four or more of the references should be university academics who have taught you),
  • A personal statement (part A): explaining your interests and where you would like to be in the future in your career, as well as your goals and how you have or would like to contribute to society (this statements must be signed by the applicant),
  • A statement of intended study (part B): explaining the qualification you would like to study at Oxford, proving that you meet the entry requirements for your selected qualification, (both statements together must be no more than 1000 words).

*Please note that all documents must be submitted in English (or with an English translation). Original documents must be kept by applicants.
