  • Learnership students will be screened according to the SETA requirements for the programme of enrolment.
  • An exception may be made by the Campus Manager for admission granted on age and/or experience.  In such instances, it needs to be established that although the student does not have the formal minimum requirement, work experience and maturity make the probability of success likely.
  • In the case of students with certification from foreign countries, the Department of Higher Education and Training provides the appropriate guidelines.  Where no such guide for a specific certificate can be found, the student may be advised to liaise with SAQA in order to verify the qualification.

Students with Special Education Needs

  • Students with special needs are to be accommodated within the scope of the College, so long as the disability does not pose a threat to the well-being of the student or fellow students during programme delivery.  The latter would apply, for example, in the case of a blind candidate wishing to enrol for a course reliant on dangerous heavy machinery where sight is imperative for the execution of the task.
  • Special learning needs can be accommodated via ascribe (on application to the Department of Higher Education and Training) and permission being granted.  This is dependent on the submission of professional learning history.  The additional costs incurred shall be at the expense of the student.
  • Physical needs will be accommodated wherever possible.  If this accommodation should incur costs on the running of the entire course, the student is to bear the cost.  An example of this would be Braille keyboards for the blind or computer screen protectors for epileptics, etc.

Foreign Students

  • The College is not permitted to register foreign students until the student produces the supporting documentation for evaluation purposes. This will include a passport, visa, study/work permit and qualifications upon registration.
  • All foreign students shall be subjected to a selection procedure based on academic merit and the number of spaces available.  In the case of students with certification from foreign countries, the Department of Higher Education and Training provides the appropriate guidelines.  Where no such guide for a specific certificate can be found, the candidate may be advised to liaise with SAQA in order to verify the qualification.
  • If the home language is not the language of instruction, the College may conduct an assessment of the language to determine the level of competency.  This could be done by means of interviews or testing. The College can also use ongoing communication and literacy support.
